Emergency!

I've just recently started my 6th and final (gasp!) posting in A&E. So far so good, but i'm still trying to get used to the new shift system. I guess after one and a half years of working 7-5 everyday and the dreaded 36hr run for on call, a 7 hour shift will take some getting used to. The longest we can go is a 17 hour stretch which is basically just 2 shifts in a row. I like it! A LOT! Haha. Green zone is fun, basically like locum at a clinic. Yellow is semi-critical, mainly patients who need head charting, BP monitoring, and any other close observation. Red zone, or resus, is where the action is. Chest pain, severe asthma attacks, trauma requiring chest tubes, CPR and all that jazz. All the MO's are so nice, the specialists are so smart and spot on! Everything is ordered stat and managed on the spot. Very different from the ward setting that i'm so used to, it's way more laid back there even in the acute cubicles.

Will definitely take some getting used to, but i definitely see myself liking it here. Good choice for final posting for shizzle!

KCL

I've started looking at prospects for my post-graduate studies. I know it's only been two years since i got my degree and started work but it's really zapping the life out of me. Slowly, but surely. Still got two more years to go to complete my compulsory services, but after that i'm not looking forward to continuing on in government service. I wanna take a break, a sabbatical more like, and continue studying. Yeah maybe i am just giving myself an excuse to not work, but there's never any harm in education, right? ;)

Been looking at colleges and courses, and i've stumbled upon the perfect combo - a one year course in Dermatology from King's college. Doesn't hurt either that the campus is in central London hehe. I've always wanted to have the experience of being abroad and living independently and since i didn't have the chance to do it as an undergraduate this is the perfect opportunity.

King's College Lodon; Guy campus

I would be doing a full term 1-year course, then who knows what i'll do from there. Maybe some short courses, maybe another diploma. We'll see. I like that i'm older now and i have more focus, i know what my priorities are and that i have more say in what I want to do. And the fact that it's two years from now is perfect so i'll be able to properly plan out everything i need ie housing, finances, etc.

Sounds like a plan, eh? :)

Mothers day / 9mths

Mom's everywhere celebrated their own special day last Sunday; but seriously every day is children's and husbands day for them and they only get ONE day a year? Seriously need to think this one over guys. But for mother's day i got mama a Hammam spa voucher! The sultana hammam package includes a Hammam and Gommage, Moorish body polish, aromatic massage, facial and rose blossom hair mask! All in a whopping 3 hrs total. That's a lot of relaxation mommy! Hope she likes it :)

Coincidentally it was also Jan & I's 9th month anniversary, so we tried out Nagomi in Menara Hap Seng which is a Shabu-shabu restaurant we always pass by on the way home from work, but never got around to try. Food was good! Lucky for us lovebirds there was a special promotion for two hee hee hee.. Went for the ribeye shabu-shabu, which was super yummy with a choice of miso soup base for me and a spicier kimchi soup for him. With all the vege and tofu and meat it's basically like sukiyaki but a more.. instant version? There was also a grill where u can cook the meat Tobanyaki style if u want, and this is with a wasabi/soy gravy which gave the meat so much flavour and the set also included 2 servings of salmon sashimi. The salmon can be eaten as is, grilled toban style or swished in the soup and eaten shabu shabu style. The carnivors that we were cleaned up the ribeye in no time, so we ordered another serving of ox tongue or "gyu tan". My favourite!!! Will definitely be going there again soon :)

Needless to say, I had a good weekend.

Bar - Ley

BALI WAS GOOD! 4 days 3 nights well spent, methinks. But there's so much to do there that you can never spend enough time there. Really should plan a re-visit SOON, when $$ is looking okay again. O and lets not forget the drama where my i forgot my passport, had to go to the bank to get it and in result, missed my flight! Had to buy a whole new one way ticket to replace it, so stupid of me! Other than that everything else went smoothly, the weather was just wicked hot and so now i've got my tan on. Burnt to a crisp lah! ;)

And before my tan lines even wear off, we're already planning a trip to Perhentian this mid-May with a whole bunch of people. Can't wait to go snorkelling, it's just beautiful in the east coast.

Happy labour day!
